Sarah Shuraki - Ceramic Art & Design
Sarah Shuraki, living in Israel, graduated from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (with honors), has participated to various expositions in the world (North Carolina-Paris-Toronto-Belgium-Israel and more). Actually working in her private studio in Jerusalem and also partially teaching at the Bezalel academy and at her studio.
Sarah’s ceramic work is basically inspired by an inner requirement to observe the position of man in the Created world.
She has generated organic shapes influenced by the basic structures existing in Nature and has also developed a special technique in order to concretize her aspirations
The technique called “shapes network” starts from a full wheel work. After creating a few basic objects on the wheel, at a second stage the primary objects is cut into pieces, and then reassembled in different orders. Those objects are then polished and burned and a second burning provides to the objects colors angob with velvety texture and rough dry, so that the incoming light won’t be reflected and finally the object recovers a new entity. Each new object is manually created according to the above technique and has is unique “personality” in the presented series. The sequence of the presented pieces introduce a new element , which was not present before the presentation of the whole set: any object appears as part of a Family.
